Alt text, title, and caption are not the same field
· Lidor Asulin
The attachment screen shows a title, a caption, a description, and alt text. They look similar in the admin. They are not interchangeable.
What each one is for
Alt text is the alternative when the image is not seen. It should describe the image. The title is often just the filename, and browsers may show it as a tooltip. The caption is visible text under the image in the content, when you choose to show one.
Filling the title or the caption does not fill the alt attribute. A library can look “labeled” in the admin and still ship empty alt text on the front end.
What EzAlt writes
EzAlt generates the alt text. It does not replace your captions or rewrite alt text that is already there. If a caption and an alt text should say different things, keep them different. The caption can be a credit or a joke. The alt text should still describe the image.
